Heritage Village

Yesterday, as part of our National Day Celebrations we had a chance to visit the Heritage Village kindly set up by Yalla Yasmina.

We had a fantastic time learning about the Heritage of the UAE and sampling some food, smelling a range of perfumes as well as a range of other fantastic activities.

Science Labs!

Today we had the exciting opportunity to visit the secondary science labs. We found out about lab safety and how we can minimise risk of the hazards.

We had a chance to light bunsen burners and found out about the different types of flame.

Next week we will return to the lab to carry out experiments using the skills we learnt today. Visit our blog next week to find out more.

Super Scientists

We loved visiting the secondary science labs for a safety talk today and even had the opportunity to try safely lighting a Bunsen burner - success!
Can you comment any safety tips below to share with others?

Heritage Village Visit

We had an excellent experience visiting the Heritage Village in school this week. We could see the wonderful effort put in by the parents involved to share the culture and history with us.
Share your favourite part of the visit below please  :)
I loved finding about about the traditional games that children played together and tasting the dates! Miss Smith.

Multiples!

In Miss Smith's Maths class we put our 'Multiple Finding Skills' to the test!
We discovered that learning our Times Tables really helped when finding Multiples too.
Post a comment below to share your skills - can you find all the multiples up to 100 for the numbers 6, 7, 8 or 9?
:-)

Printing

The Ancient Chinese are famous for making some key discoveries that have had a significant impact on civilization.

One of the four great inventions from the Ancient Chinese era is printing, which started with wood block printing.

We used Styrofoam blocks to make our own prints.

Chinese Cooking - Nightjars Class

We had a fantastic morning cooking noodles with the amazing chefs from Melius restaurant. They taught us the importance of a clean and safe kitchen, as well as how to prepare ingredients and follow a recipe.

I'm sure all the children will agree that the noodles we made were delicious. Below are a few photos from our morning!

Science - Life cycles

In Science we have been learning how animals are classified. We sorted statements and created definitions about each type of living thing.

We then used a range of sources of information to find out about the life cycles of these animals and worked in groups to create presentations to share with the class. Finally we presented what we had learnt to the class and compared the life cycles of different groups of living things.

Have a look at a sample of our presentations and pictures of us working collaboratively.

Quelle est la journée que tu aimes?

Bonjour from Primary MFL! This week Year 5 are talking about their favourite day of the week. The question this week is:

Quelle est la journée que tu aimes?
What is your favourite day of the week?

We can answer the question by saying:

J’aime le jeudi!
I like Thursday!

We have been singing, playing memory games and practicing the question and answer in groups. We have had lots of fun!

Parents and pupils can have fun learning the days of the week song. Just follow this link...

Mathematics Measure Madness

Last week in Mathematics, we were learning to measure with improved accuracy and to convert between units of measure. We measured a variety of items in the class and then had to convert between millimetres, centimetres and metres.
We challenge you to try estimating and measuring various items in and around your home. Post some photos below showing you hard at work!
